Dr. Jay R. Harf is the Vice President of Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) for L’Oréal Operations based in Clark, NJ. His enterprise responsibilities include the leadership and performance of all Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainability systems for the L’Oréal Americas Zone which is comprised of the three geographical divisions of North America, The Hispanic Zone and Brazil. His accountabilities include establishing vision, direction, and validation of sustainable operations, leadership of the EHS&S management systems, setting goals to exceed compliance to corporate and regulatory standards, validating EHS&S improvement plans and budgets, and continuously improving EHS&S performance indicators through environmental stewardship, safety culture leadership, employee safety and wellness and sustainability strategies. In addition, he also directs all aspects of EHS&S audits, monitors corrective actions plans, and ensures clarity of communication and alignment between distribution and manufacturing facilities. Jay is the passionate leader of the EHS&S zero incident culture for the L’Oréal Americas Zone which encompasses over 8000 employees across 39 manufacturing and distribution Centers with a keen awareness of agility, digital transformation and talent development.

With his 25 years of EHS&S experience, Jay has a proven track record of progressively more responsible leadership positions in the field of international Health, Safety Environment & Sustainability. With significant industrial experience in comparably complex, multi-site, large scale heavy and precision manufacturing operations, Jay has held global EHS&S leadership positions with several Fortune 500 organizations including Marsh & McLennan (Philadelphia, PA), Johnson Controls (Milwaukee, WI) and Lutron Electronics (Allentown, PA). Jay is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Board Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) and a Board Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM). In addition, he is also an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Special Governmental Employee (SGE). Jay has both a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Industrial Safety from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and holds his Ph.D in Corporate Leadership from Alvernia University. Jay is also on the Safety Sciences Faculty Advisory Committee at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and in 2018, he was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Jay is a talented and passionate presenter in the EHS&S arena and has keynoted numerous national and international conferences in both occupational safety and sustainability.
