Near Miss Reporting and a Culture of Safety at Under Armour
Under Armour is an industry leader in athletic apparel and the products that move through the facilities are shirts, shoes and accessories. For the past several years, the company has utilized an incident reporting system that allows employees as well as supervisors the ability to submit incidents, and specifically near misses. Under Armour operates 3 distribution facilities in the continental US, each approximately 1.2 million square feet. Each facility has hundreds of full-time employees and temp workers. Each facility employs one full-time EH&S manager, however, the company leverages asset protection specialists as well as operations leaders and supervisors to drive the culture of safety and reporting. As near-miss reporting has increased; injuries, PIT incidents, incident and DART rates have all decreased, as well as the companies workers comp liabilities. In an era where distribution accidents, injuries and the associated rates make front-page headlines, Under Armour also is an industry leader in keeping our employees and temp workers safe, secure and productive.
