Mr. Murray will present how he was successful in creating a vibrant safety culture in a construction organization that wanted to do the right thing but struggled with high injury rates, high Experience Modification Rates (EMR) and regulatory agency fines. This presentation will cover topics to include the business side of safety, defining safety culture, building relationships and communications at all levels of the organization and with outside customers and organizations, leading and lagging indicators and KPI’s, and how the perception of risk can drain everything you have worked for. This presentation is based in a construction environment. However, it is relatable in most any industry including public entities and risk management. While this is not a technical presentation, the value is gained from real-world examples of things that can be readily implemented in most organizations and will spur new thoughts and ideas that may be initiated in your own organization.
